Broadening the Scope of Dysphagia Treatment
“Broadening the Scope of Dysphagia Treatment” is a course designed to dive into practical dysphagia treatment techniques. The presenter discusses the dysphagia evaluation process, cranial nerve exams and dysphagia imaging, selection of current evidence-based treatment options, the importance of a team approach and how to make necessary referrals, dysphagia documentation standards, and more. Participants will navigate 25 actual patient case studies from SNR’s regional swallowing center, determining an appropriate treatment plan for each based on the assessment findings provided. The presenter will then discuss each patient’s actual treatment details and their outcomes. The goal is for participants to leave this course with a better understanding of how to immediately apply current evidence-based dysphagia treatments with their caseloads.
This course is an 8.5-hour recorded course that participants can complete at their own pace. There is a case study worksheet that is completed as each patient’s case is presented where participants list a few treatment ideas before the actual outcomes are given. This worksheet is returned along with a course survey for course participation credit.
