FEES Interpretation and Analysis

Course Description:

This course aims to promote independent interpretation and analysis of fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) exams. The instructor provides an overview of the terminology needed for FEES p.o. trial analysis along with a large library of video clips of actual patient studies played in real time and slow motion for FEES analysis practice. 

Course Format:

This is a 9-hour recorded course that participants can complete at their own pace. Upon course completion, there is a required quiz and course survey that must be submitted for course participation credit.

Expected Learner Outcomes:

After attending this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and describe all anatomical structures observed on a FEES exam

  • Analyze p.o. trials on a FEES assessment and document the trial findings using appropriate terminology

  • Identify normal and abnormal swallowing findings as observed on FEES exams

  • Video 4: (51 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 21-30

  • Video 5: (1 hour, 2 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 31-40

  • Video 6: (44 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 41-45

  • Video 7: (39 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 46-50

  • Video 8: (48 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 51-55

  • Video 9: (32 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 56-60

  • Video 10: (38 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 61-65

  • Video 11: (51 minutes) Endoscopy Videos and Analysis- Clips 66-70, Report Writing, Closing Statements

Target Audience: This course is intended for speech-language pathologists, speech-language pathology assistants, or graduate students in speech-language pathology who treat or have an interest in learning about adult dysphagia, particularly FEES analysis. 

Course Completion Requirements:  To receive course participation credit, participants must complete the quiz at the end of the course videos and submit a course survey.

Course Offering Dates: October 15, 2020 - September 30, 2025

Cancellation Policies for Online Courses:

If a self-study course is cancelled or removed by SNR before completion by the participant, the participant will be refunded for the course. No cancellations or refunds are permitted by a participant for online/self-study courses. Once a participant has registered for and paid for an online/ self-study course, no refunds will be issued. The participant has until the course end date specified for that course to return the required items to receive course completion credit.

Speaker Bio:

Tiffany Turner is a board certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders. She founded Swallowing and Neurological Rehabilitation in 2014. Tiffany and her team perform FEES and videostroboscopy exams and provide highly specialized treatment services for individuals throughout the region. She has also authored several clinical resources which have been utilized by thousands of SLPs worldwide and teaches several adult medical SLP continuing education courses.
