What does a swallow study show?

What is the purpose of a FEES swallow study? FEES stands for fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing. Learn why you may need one and how this diagnostic tool can help your clinician treat your swallowing impairment.

Swallow Study/ Videostrobe Demo

This video contains a demonstration of a fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) procedure and videostroboscopy using a flexible nasal endoscope on one of our student interns. In a FEES procedure at our clinic, a full 12 trial assessment of varying consistencies and bolus sizes is completed utilizing food/liquid with food coloring for easy visibility. Videostroboscopy allows visualization of vocal fold vibration in slow motion to assess their physiology.
